The report card is in! Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day, administered by the Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Foundation, gives girls and boys a unique educational opportunity to learn first-hand how the "real world" works and to make valuable connections between theory and practice, the classroom and the world.

We acknowledge Broward County, Florida public schools' Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work 2010 program Activity Packets located at their website, created by Deborah Wells, Coordinator, School To Career Department, and for their success in The Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work program.

The Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Foundation wants to hear from educators about their Day. Whether you are a coordinator at a college or a school eduactor who participates in the Day, please send us any agendas, activities/curriculum, or photos you have developed and we may feature them on our website.

By expanding the four walls of the classroom into the corners of every conceivable workplace, students are able to integrate and apply their knowledge to great practical advantage. Some kids discover hidden talents during the day. Others change their minds about the kind of work they want to pursue. One thing's for sure: As girls and boys recognize their abilities and give thought to their own future dreams, they more tangibly understand why their schoolwork matters!

On the fourth Thursday in April, girls and boys punch the clocks at offices and theaters, news rooms and retail stores, fire stations and fishing wharfs. They conduct orchestras, serve in Congress, become chefs for the day, and discover the world of medicine on pediatrics wards. In the process, they learn about negotiating raises, legislating laws, balancing work and family lives, tracking meteorites, marketing, collaborating, public speaking, inventing, building, you name it.

This huge campaign couldn't have gotten off the ground without the cooperative involvement of schools like yours. Principals issue special excused absence slips for participating students; teachers chaperone students to work; PTAs and teachers' unions spread word of the day in the community at large. Some schools take girls and boys to work in-house by linking them with coaches, secretaries, teachers, and maintenance workers for the day. Whether you and your school are veterans or first-time participants, we invite you to take the lead and help give millions of students a lively and instructive glimpse of their own potential on the next Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® Day.

While Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® Day comes just once a year, we've developed this dynamic curriculum, comprised of activities in five subject areas, to give you a way to extend conversations and explorations with students throughout the year. It is our aim that these activities will prepare students to make a positive difference in the world they are about to enter.
